Striker replacement if Marko goes
who would be on your shortlist?

i would like to see a short term striker with a younger striker bought in the summer. Since Batshuayi is off to monaco options are reduced a bit

My ideal list:

Diego Costa
Edin Dzeko
Neal Maupay

Selecta,

That's another thing that reminded me of Dean Ashton, he was a big lad - not a bad player though, i seem to remember.

Maxi Gomez...looks like a modern Spanish Micky Quinn to me.

According to football manager 2019 Maxi Gomez is excellent.

Probably the reason so many want him in loll

Dear God no.
We'd get one season out of him tops and then the chaos would start.

If Carroll was always fit he would not be playing for us.

There's always a chance that Maxi Gomez could be a Latino version of Dave Swindlehurst but his career trajectory has been all positive up until now

Re: Striker replacement if Marko goes
To be fair at 23 years of age and fit, turning out regularly, Carroll was a force to be reckoned with.

I'm glad everyone has caught up with Maxi Gomez...

I did mention him earlier on in this thread and others several times but all I got was tumbleweed

The Livertine,

I have to state as well, im only going on them youtube clips, so that doesnt make me an expert on him.

Having done some digging, it seems that Pellegrini was interested in him in the summer, so he obviously rates him.

I will say, it is a lot of money they're asking. The problem we have i, that if its between us and Barcelona, there's no prizes where he'd prefer to go.
So, if we do sell Arnie this window we may as look at it as a swap deal and pay the extra money, now.

If we till the summer when he's cheaper, someone like Barcelona will sign him.

Not taking anything personal and no offence taken.
I have seen very little and only on a youtube clip, so cant claim I am in the know. Only saying first impression wasnt what I expected. In any case I trust MP to get it right.

Re: Striker replacement if Marko goes
So it looks as though Arnie might be staying after all.

If so I assume we will drop interest in Gomez BUT if he is a long term Pelle target would we / could we go ahead on the basis that we have the upper hand and are more likely to get him now than in the summer?

Sell Hernandez for 18m, Perez for 4m (there is interest for both)... have we got 23m lying around?

Probably not.

The Libertine,

I know you're not the only person to think he's not all that from footage, so please don't take this personal.

From both sets of footage he clearly showed the following

Excellent close control.

Ability to go past a player/players.

Ability to make very good short and long passes.

Ability to bring players into play with knock downs.

Scores clinical goals with both head and feet.

My only slight criticism, is that he doesnt have electric pace, he reminds me a bit of Dean Ashton. He also has a 1in 2 goals ratio, for an average team in arguably, the best league in the world. Not bad for bloke who is Only 22.

The price being banded about is a bit lunpy, but that's the way it is nowadays if you want the best young talent.

Now does all what ive said mean that he is guaranteed to be a success, of course not. But the odds are stacked quite highly in his favour that he will do well if we sign him.

25 goals in 49 games isn’t bad for a 22 year old.
